Reclamation works at Tanjung Chek Jawa, a beach on the eastern tip of Pulau Ubin, has been deferred.

The National Development Ministry said this was to allow it to consult experts on how best to protect the marine life there. The reclamation was originally scheduled to start at the end of this year.

The Ministry said the decision was taken after public feedback and in consultation with government agencies and marine life experts.

On Thursday, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan met representatives of various nature groups and members of the public, who want to protect the marine life in Chek Jawa. To protect the habitat, NParks is starting a system to manage visitors to Chek Jawa during low tide.

Visitors are also advised to stick to designated routes and refrain from collecting plants or animals from the beach.
